The newest portion of the North Carolina Mountains-to-Sea Trail opened in May.
Staff Reports
Nature lovers, rejoice. The newest portion of the North Carolina Mountains-to-Sea Trail that opened in May is close to Reedy Fork. You can access the 1.4-mile Grande Peninsula Trail via the public entrance on Hines Chapel Road or inside Reedy Fork along the parkway near the early learning academy.
Part of Hines Chapel Preserve, the trail comprises 450 acres, with 85 acres of agricultural land leased to a local farmer. Other trails are planned. It was one of the larger tracts of land purchased by Guilford County with the funds from the 2004 bond referendum.
Guilford County partnered with NC Wildlife Habitat Foundation to plant a native warm-seasoned grass meadow on the property.
