The main room in the South Village Clubhouse will be converted into a Reedy Fork gym featuring state-of-the-art equipment that’s free for residents who live there.

GREENSBORO – Hoping to shed a few pounds or stay in better shape this year? If you live in Reedy Fork, you won’t have to travel far. Plans call for the South Village Clubhouse to be converted into a Reedy Fork gym featuring state-of-the-art equipment that’s free to use for Reedy Fork residents.

An opening date hasn’t been set but the Reedy Fork gym should be ready this spring after the clubhouse undergoes renovations including installing a new door and access system. The new gym equipment will include:

  • Free weights
  • Three treadmills
  • Two ellipticals
  • Climb mill
  • Echelon virtual bike (commercial version)
  • Leg press
  • Cable machine
  • Echelon virtual fitness mirror

Part of the Reedy Fork gym will include an area where you can watch classes on demand, plus a storage area for dumbbells, kettlebells, medicine balls and other equipment. The storage area is also equipped with a punching bag, TRX rope and a pull-up station. Nearby, an Echelon virtual fitness mirror will feature 360 classes on demand.

The main floor will be covered with 8mm soft rubber, and a smaller, square section will also feature a green “turf” layer on top. That means you don’t need to bring your yoga mats, said John Rodriguez, senior project manager at Ready Fitness, the vendor supplying the equipment, flooring and maintenance services for the gym. “Just kick off your shoes and warm up,” he said.

For the cardio equipment, features include immersive touch screens to watch streaming video services such as Netflix. You can hop on the treadmill and select scenes of the beach or mountains to view while jogging. The treadmills can automatically incline or decline and go faster or slower to simulate hilly terrain.

“This will have a big club health club feel in a small room,” Rodriguez said. “It has everything you need.”

The gym will be available to residents 24/7 by using their access cards to unlock the gate and clubhouse door. The access cards are the same ones used as pool passes.

  1. Make sure there’s a requirement to be kind.

Make sure that all equipment is wiped off when you’re done using it.

  2. Regulations posted about safety and children under 18. Gyms can be dangerous places. Respect others no cellphone videos taken or posted of orders should be part of those expectations these days. No camping on one piece of equipment share between sets. All issues at the paid gyms thanks for the opportunity I think it can be a great addition.

  3. Personally and as a former LEO I advise reconsideration of having the Gym opened 24\7. Hours of 6am to 10pm function better for safety inside facility and out plus with potential of unauthorized entry always to be considered.
Fob access is good but at any location for entry will always be abused. Will someone monitor the safety of women from being assaulted \harassed during the night , or individuals vandalizing after being let in by a friend. (Like pool problems)
Sorry to be negative but again for safety of all. Protect and serve.

  4. Definitely plan for a “Sani-wipe” station where people can clean off the equipment after use. Also NO under 18’s… Unsupervised gyms that are open to teenagers quickly go downhill. Would also recommend a camera with a notice that it’s there!
